The first commercial for the Oprah Winfrey Network aired today. For the Oprah fans: How to Prepare for the End of the Oprah Winfrey Show

The queen of daytime talk is ending her talk show
reign in September of 2011. Her US Specialty
Channel, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, however, is
going to be launched on January 1, 2011, with the
first commercial having aired on December 3,
2010.[1] In the 25 years Oprah Winfrey has been
on the air, she has developed a devoted, and
sometimes obsessive, group of followers. For
those among the most loyal, use the following
steps to ease the pain of her departure from
television and prepare for possible withdrawal.

!! Steps !!

* Go to a live taping of the show. If you haven't done so yet, go
see the show in-person to avoid any possible regrets or
unfulfilled wishes. It is the last chance to see Oprah host her
show live, so demand for tickets to the show is incredible high,
but it's still possible to attend. Check oprah.com regularly for
updates on when reservations will be available again.

* Stay involved in the rest of the Oprah franchise. While the show
is ending, O, The Oprah Magazine, Oprah Radio and Oprah.com remain
and will be joined by Oprah's new network, OWN TV. Oprah is
directly involved with every issue of her magazine, so it is a
great way to get a dose of Oprah in your life as you prepare for
or recover from her on-air departure.

* Start or join a book club and read through the Oprah's Book Club
list. If you are already a serious Oprah fan, it is likely you
have read a number of books on her book club list by now. Whether
you are a new or life-long fan, joining a mini version of
Oprah's Book Club is a great way to fill in the gaps on your
reading list and get together regularly with fellow Oprah fans.

* Watch (or re-watch) The Oprah Winfrey Show: 20th Anniversary
Collection. As of now, the collection is the only DVD set
available for the show, although select Oprah specials are also
available. Experience once more your beloved Oprah memories or
discover some new favorites. Make it a viewing party and invite
friends to join and share their thoughts on Oprah's most
memorable moments and reflect on how the show is important in
their lives.

* Plan on throwing a big finale party. Get every Oprah fan you know
together to watch the final episode together.

!! Tips !!

* Remember that the legacy is greater than the show. Not having a
daily helping of Oprah's charm and wisdom will be rough, but
what makes this TV host so popular is that her persona is greater
than the show that made her career. The lessons, memories and
laughs her show gave will live on long after the cameras roll for
the final taping in Chicago.
