It's Elephant Appreciation Day! How to Sew an Elephant Cushion

This is a delightful little elephant cushion that can make a
cute gift for a friend, or a lovely little toy for a child.

!! Steps !!

Cut out a template from cardboard or paper Cut out the outline of
the elephant's head.

Trace around this as a template - click to enlarge and trace around.
Trace around the shape shown in this image (click to enlarge).

* Cut two sides for the front and back of the cushion.

* Iron the pieces flat, then pin together, as in the image.

Stitch around the cut-out shape. Use a basic stitch, such as running
stitch.

Finish sewing and tie a knot. Cut a small slit at the back of the
elephant's head so that you have space to stuff the elephant
cushion.

* Turn it inside out so that the stitches are on the inside.

Stuff the elephant head with toy stuffing. Stitch the slit up
neatly. Use invisible stitch to repair the slit.

Plump out the shape so that it is even and neat. All
set! Create eyes. You can do this one of two ways. Either sew eyes
straight on, or cut out some felt for the eyes and a pupil and
stitch on.

* If you want the ears to flap a little more, sew a line down
between each ear against the head. This will make each ear appear
more distinctive and stick out more firmly.

!! Tips !!

* Use embroidery thread for the eyes or any other decorative
features.

!! Warnings !!

* Be careful not to leave any gaps; sew evenly.
