How to Make a Tissue Paper Wreath

How to Make a Tissue Paper Wreath

The finished wreath A simple tissue wreath to make at home
with the kids, this wreath works for any holiday by simply
changing the colors and decorative elements to reflect
whatever occasion or season you're celebrating. It's easy,
it's fast, and you can make it without having to buy much,
or maybe nothing at all. Here's how.

!! Steps !!

* The paper plate with the center cut out. This is the
"doughnut" shape. Take a paper plate and cut out the center
circle. Do this by poking a hole in the center and cutting out
from the small hole. Alternatively, gently fold the plate in half
and cut a slit. This will leave a large "doughnut" shape.

* Different colored squares Take the various colors of
tissue paper that you're wanting to use. Cut about forty (40)
1-inch (2.5cm) by 1-inch (2.5cm) squares. This number is just an
example to start with; you may need adjust up or down according to
the effect you want to achieve with your design and colors.

* Press the square against the plate with a pencil or pen.
Put a tiny dot of glue (just a small amount!) in the center of a
square. Use the end of a pen or the eraser side of the pencil to
stick on the glue dot to the paper plate. Make sure the only part
flat against the plate is the glued part of the paper.

* Plate with all of the squares glued on. Continue doing
this with all of the colors until you can't see anymore of the
front side of the plate. If you need to cut more squares, then do
so.

* Plate with pom-poms. Take about ten pom-poms of the
same color, or suitably contrasting colors. For Christmas, use a
maroon or cranberry color to look like berries. Put a small amount
of glue on one end of the pom-pom and stick it in the center of a
tissue paper square. Place the pom-poms randomly.

* The yarn with knot is taped onto the plate. Take a
14-inch (35.5cm) long piece of balloon ribbon or yarn. Tie a
double knot with both ends. Use tape or glue and secure the string
to the back of the wreath at the top area.

* The finished wreath. Add any finishing touches to the
wreath. Suitable decorative additions include sparkles,
decorations, or a message on the back. Hang the wreath up.

!! Tips !!

* You can make this wreath for any holiday. Use varying shades of
the various colors for that holiday.

* Save time cutting out the tissue paper squares by folding and
layering the paper. This way, you can cut more in just one cut.
If you're having trouble gluing and attaching squares to the plate,
here are some helpful tips:

* Take a square and center it over the top of the pencil.

* Take the ends of the square and press them against the pencil.
Hold them somewhat tight. Don't pull down or you will rip the
paper.

* Put a dot of glue on the center part of the square.

* Holding the ends of the square to the pencil, press the center of
the square against the plate, and hold for a few seconds.

* Release the ends of the square, and gently pull the pencil away
from the plate.

!! Warnings !!

* Don't over-glue the paper! If you do, when it dries it will have a
huge glue-dot that makes your wreath look bad. You want to present
a tissue paper wreath, not have blobs of glue appearing, so it's
very important to use a tiny amount of it.

* Have an adult supervise children when cutting the string, tissue
paper, and plate.
